An Israeli tourist stabbed another Israeli at a music festival in Hungary on Saturday, leaving him in “life threatening condition,” according to Hungarian police.
The incident occurred at the Ozora trance music festival in central Hungary.
According to police, “a 26-year-old Israeli citizen was stabbed several times with a knife by a 28-year-old Israeli citizen after a verbal confrontation, and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.”
Medical teams were called to the scene to treat the victim and he was airlifted to the hospital in a nearby city, according to local reports.
Hungarian police said they arrested the suspected assailant, who was also injured, after he was treated at the hospital and have opened an investigation into the stabbing.
The Ozora festival, which attracts tens of thousands of international visitors every year, is frequented by Israeli partygoers who flock to Hungary for various festivals every summer.
Hungary is one of Israel’s closest allies in the European Union, and even recently barred the provocative anti-Israel Irish rap group Kneecap from entering the country and performing at the upcoming Sziget festival, accusing the band of “antisemitic hate speech.”
Prime Minister Viktor Orban has also directed police to ban pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel rallies following Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack, which sparked the ongoing war in Gaza.
