Israel’s leading cultural icons, family members, friends and others are gathering at the Kiryat Shaul cemetery outside Tel Aviv to say their final goodbye to actress Ronit Elkabetz, who died Tuesday at the age of 51 after a battle with cancer.
Before the funeral, Elkabetz’s body lay in state at the Tel Aviv Cinemateque.
“My beautiful love, thank you for the dear time you shared with us,” her husband Avner Yashar eulogizes, according to news site Ynet. “You left us three gifts, and true unending love we had for each other.”

Elkabetz was known as one of the leading actresses in Israeli cinema.
Her death followed two years of a career high, as her film, “Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem,” co-directed with her brother Shlomi Amsalem, won Israel’s 2014 Ophir award for best film and was selected as the Israeli entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards (although it was not nominated). “Gett” was also nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards in 2015.
