Air strike hits Iraqi base hosting pro-Iran militia, sources say
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleA bombing that targeted an Iraqi military base housing a pro-Iran militia caused casualties, a security official and sources in the former paramilitary coalition Hashed al-Shaabi tell AFP.
The Jurf al-Sakher base in southern Iraq belongs to Hashed al-Shaabi or the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) but mostly hosts the powerful pro-Iran group Kataeb Hezbollah.
“The bombing targeted the 47th brigade of Kataeb Hezbollah,” a source in the Hashed al-Shaabi tells AFP. A security official and another Hashed source confirm that the base was targeted.
Hezbollah-aligned Lebanese outlet al-Mayadeen says at least two people were killed and five wounded in the strike. The report does not specify who carried out the attack.
