Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has been officially invited to meet with US President Donald Trump in Washington on July 21, according to the Lebanese embassy in DC.

Both leaders have indicated for weeks that they would soon meet, amid ongoing Israel-Lebanon talks hosted by Washington.

Aoun is expected to formally receive the invitation from US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa in Beirut tomorrow, a source with knowledge tells the Turkish news agency Anadolu, adding that the visit is expected to focus on implementing the recently signed Israel-Lebanon framework for the phased Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, as well as bilateral ties and regional developments.

The US has sought to organize a trilateral meeting between Aoun, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Trump, but Beirut has pushed back on the idea so long as Israel maintains forces in southern Lebanon.
