Beaches to open Wednesday

In the midst of a heatwave, Interior Minister Aryeh Deri announces that Israel’s beaches will be opened to the public and the swimming season will commence on Wednesday following a six-week closure due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The decision follows a consultation between Deri, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the head of the National Security Council, Meir Ben-Shabbat.

Local authorities will be required to prepare beaches under their jurisdiction by May 20.
