New CIA head Mike Pompeo met Tuesday night with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah in order to discuss the two-state solution and the security of the region, according to Hebrew and Arabic media reports.
According to a report in the Palestinian News Agency Ma’an, based on a “reliable” source, the meeting took place in the PA headquarters in Ramallah, known as the Muqataa, and was attended by the head of the Palestinian intelligence service, Maj. Gen. Majed Faraj.
Senior Palestinian security sources told Israel Radio last night’s meeting between Abbas and Pompeo was the second in recent weeks, with the first one taking place at the start of this month.
The sides reportedly discussed the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington.
Over the weekend, Pompeo made a public visit to Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
There was no immediate response to the reports from US officials.
