Drone flies Israeli flag over Turkish embassy in Tel Aviv, where Ankara’s flag was lowered to mourn Haniyeh
An activist used a drone to fly an Israeli flag on top of the Turkish embassy in Tel Aviv yesterday after Ankara lowered its flag to half staff in honor of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Tehran last week.
Posts on social media call the feat a “direct insult to the Turkish people and government” and a “provocation.”
Turkey declared Friday a day of mourning for Haniyeh, who was killed on Wednesday in a blast for which Israel has neither claimed nor denied responsibility.
In an interview with Channel 12 News, Ohad Ben Hamo says he took the drone down after Turkish embassy staff motioned to him with their hands that they would return their flag to the top of the flagpole.
“I was happy I was able to be part of setting that boundary,” he says.
