Footage released by left-wing Israeli NGO B’Tselem captures the incident in which 23-year-old Palestinian Ali Hamadneh was shot dead in the Ramallah area on Saturday by a reservist soldier in an “area defense force” unit known by its Hebrew acronym Hagmar — made up of local settlers in reserve duty
The footage shows the soldier opening fire as Palestinians flee the scene. One of them, said to be Hamadneh, can be seen collapsing to the ground.
According to B’Tselem, Hamadneh was shot in the back, with the bullet passing through his body and exiting the other side.
B’Tselem also claims that, contrary to the IDF’s statement, the reservist was alone, rather than accompanied by other troops. No additional soldiers are visible in the video released by the organization.
The IDF alleged on Saturday that the reservist had opened fire on Palestinians who had been hurling stones at an Israeli civilian in the West Bank. It has said that the incident is under investigation.

Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
