Haifa’s Carmelit subway to close for 3 weeks, adding to transit shutdowns

Haifa’s Carmelit subway announces that it will close for three weeks for infrastructure work, the latest transit shutdown across Israel.

The stoppage is due to begin on August 31 and last until September 21.

The announcement comes as Israel Railways has shut down most Tel Aviv service for about a week after a freight train recently damaged several hundred meters of electric cable infrastructure.

A segment of Jerusalem’s light rail is also currently shut down as that network is being expanded.
