Herzog lightly injured in car smash-up

Isaac Herzog’s terrible, horrible, no-good, very-bad week just got a little worse as the opposition chief was involved in a car crash on Israel’s coastal highway.

Herzog was treated for light injuries on the scene of the crash near Rishpon, north of Tel Aviv, and was not hospitalized, a spokesperson says.

Two others are also lightly hurt in what Herzog on Twitter calls a “pile-up.”

The Zionist Union leader’s week began with him getting grilled by police over a graft probe, and on Tuesday night his problems were compounded when it emerged he had said his Labor Party should stop giving the impression that “we are always Arab-lovers,” drawing criticism from inside and outside the party.

Some in Labor have called for him to resign his leadership post or call new primaries, and on Tuesday, Zionist Union MK Erel Margalit released a scathing video calling on the dovish party to start standing up for itself, which was interpreted by some as the opening volley of a bid to supplant Herzog.
