The American relationship with Israel is a “two-way street,” and Washington’s $3.8 billion in annual security assistance is a strategic and economic investment that strengthens both countries, US Ambassador Mike Huckabee tells a Knesset caucus on Israel-US relations.
Huckabee jokes that he was “planning on bringing Tucker Carlson today,” following his controversial interview with the right-wing pundit last week, which made headlines for challenging US aid for Israel, among other things.
Military aid, a fraction of the roughly $7 trillion US federal budget, helps sustain “hundreds and hundreds” of well-paying American jobs, Huckabee says. He cites ammunition produced in factories near Little Rock, Arkansas, and components for the Iron Dome and Arrow 3 missile systems manufactured in Camden, Arkansas.
The US–Israel alliance is rooted in shared Judeo-Christian values dating back “3,800 years” to the biblical figures Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Huckabee says at the event, sponsored by the Ruderman Foundation. Those foundations underpin Western civilization and American freedom, he says.
