IAF says it wouldn’t shoot down Russian jet
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleA senior Israel Air Force officer says if a Russian jet entered Israel’s airspace, it would not be shot down.
“Russia is a central player [in Syria] and cannot be ignored,” the officer says, according to Hebrew media. “Our policy is that we don’t attack or shoot down any Russian planes. Russia is not the enemy. We’re trying to avoid any confrontation with it. In order to avoid putting pilots into questionable situations, we’re not getting close — not them to us, and not us to them.”
The briefing at which the officer spoke comes after Turkey shot down a Russian plane this week.
