Iranian hackers shut down small UK power plant for days — report

A small British power plant was shut down for four days by hackers linked to the Iranian regime, the UK’s Telegraph newspaper reports, calling it the first such successful attack on vital infrastructure in the country.

According to the BBC, authorities have declined to name the plant and insist the shutdown did not put the country’s power grid at risk, but have warned power companies about the danger of cyber attacks.

The Telegraph, which does not name a source, says the attack took place last month, at the same time that water infrastructure in the US was affected by a suspected Iranian cyber attack.

“The facility was disabled for four days while staff fought to bring it back online,” the paper reports.
