Lapid blasts government as having worst record in Israeli history

Shortly before lawmakers are set to vote on the first of three readings of a bill to dissolve the Knesset, Opposition Leader Yair Lapid castigates Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government as the worst in Israeli history.

“The Knesset will vote today in its first reading on dissolving the Knesset and heading to elections. We are taking another step toward ending the tenure of this government… Even coalition supporters will have to admit that there has never been a government with so many disasters to its name,” Lapid tells reporters ahead of his Yesh Atid party’s weekly faction meeting in the Knesset.

“The greatest massacre in the history of the country. The highest number of terror casualties in the history of the country. The longest war in the history of the country that ended without any ‘absolute victory,'” he says, using Netanyahu’s oft-used expression as he promised military supremacy in the early days of the conflicy. “Not in Gaza, not in Lebanon, and not in Iran. An increase in cases of Jewish terrorism to numbers unprecedented in the history of the country.

“The greatest deterioration in the history of the country in the educational achievements of our children. The first two credit rating downgrades in the history of the country. The greatest number of ministers and members of the Knesset suspected of crimes in the history of the country. The greatest transfer of corrupt political funds in the history of the country,” Lapid continues, slamming Netanyahu for overseeing unprecedented increases in violent crime and the “decline of Israel’s international status to a low point that has never been seen before in the country’s history.”
