Prime Minister Yair Lapid is convening the top-level security cabinet this evening, his office says in a statement.

The officials are set to meet at 10:30 p.m. at the military’s headquarters in Tel Aviv, the Prime Minister’s Office says.

The announcement of the meeting comes approximately 20 hours into Operation Breaking Dawn, which began Friday afternoon when the Israel Defense Forces launched strikes on terror targets in the Gaza Strip in response to what officials said was an ongoing “concrete” threat to target Israeli civilians and soldiers.

Islamic Jihad then began to fire relentless barrages of rockets at Israeli communities in southern and central Israel.
