Lax security blamed in Beersheba attack

A contractor hired to provide security at the Beersheba Central Bus Station is in hot water over suspicions that its lax standards may have made it easier for a terrorist to carry out an attack there.

Police, who have been investigating the deadly attack at the station on October 18, say that there was a “severe failure” on the part of the company at the time of the attack, according to Channel 10.

The company posted only seven guards at the various entrances to the station, as opposed to the 11 required, and did not check those entering the building — including the terrorist — as thoroughly as it should have, the report says.

Two people were killed in the attack: an Israeli soldier who was shot by the attacker, and an Eritrean national who was killed by security guards and an angry mob who mistook him for the terrorist.

The attacker was shot dead by security forces.
