The Palestinian Authority foreign ministry criticizes President Isaac Herzog’s statements branding boycotts of Israel and Israeli settlements “terrorism.”
“The occupation is terrorism itself. It is the worst kind of terrorism,” the ministry says in a statement.
Herzog’s remarks followed a decision by the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream company to cease selling its products in “Occupied Palestinian Territory,” referring to the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Israel disputes that it occupies those territories, although much of the international community considers it an occupying power.
The Vermont-based ice cream company has said it will continue to sell its products within Israel proper.
“The Israeli president should thank Ben & Jerry’s. They’re an alarm bell. Either Israel wakes up from its occupation and works to end it, or it will face a total boycott,” the PA foreign ministry says.
