Palestinians set May date for new local elections

The Palestinians have set May 13 as the date for long-postponed local elections in the West Bank and Gaza, Ynet reports.

The elections were meant to have been held in 2016, but was called off by a court in Ramallah after Hamas, which rules Gaza, wouldn’t let some of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party candidates run in the Strip.

That was the latest in a string of Palestinian elections that have been delayed or canceled in recent years.
