PM says will discuss pardon for Naama Issachar with Putin, hopes for ‘good news’

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirms he will use his meeting later this week with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss a potential pardon for Israeli-American backpacker Naama Issachar, who was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison over several grams of marijuana.

“Today, I met with Yaffa, Naama Issachar’s mother,” Netanyahu says in a statement. “I hugged her in the name of you all, and told her that as the Kremlin published today, I am expected to meet President Putin on Thursday, and discuss a pardon for Naama with him.

“I hope just as much as you do for positive news.”
