Report: Iranian students hold fresh wave of nationwide anti-regime rallies

Students at universities across Iran have continued to hold rallies commemorating those killed in recent protests and voicing opposition to the Islamic Republic, Iran International reports.

According to the opposition-affiliated news outlet, demonstrations have taken place at the University of Tehran, Sharif University of Technology, Shahid Beheshti University, Ferdowsi University, Khajeh Nasir University, and the University of Art.

Members of the Basij paramilitary force have reportedly entered some campuses in an effort to identify protesters.

The student-run Amirkabir Newsletter reports that Basij forces initially confronted students, sparking clashes that were met with resistance. It alleges that the forces later attempted to storm the Faculty of Engineering building, breaking windows during the incident.

Footage circulating online appears to show students marching and chanting on several campuses, with some demonstrators holding up Iran’s pre-revolution flag. Other videos shared on social media seem to show clashes between protesters and Basij militia members.

A video geolocated by AFP of what appears to be a demonstration at Sharif University in Tehran shows a large crowd around flag-waving students chanting “long live the shah” and other anti-government slogans.
