Report: Israel thinks PA losing control of Jenin area
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleIsrael’s defense community suspects that the Palestinian Authority is losing control of the northern West Bank, the Kan broadcaster reports.
According to the report, the PA is being challenged for control of the area around Jenin by both the Islamic Jihad terror group and members of Fatah, the Palestinian faction ostensibly led by PA President Mahmoud Abbas.
Both terrorists who carried out attacks in Bnei Brak and Tel Aviv last month and on Thursday came from the area.
Israeli officials want the PA to crack down on terror in the area, but fear it will not be able to, he reports, comments that may reflect official thinking on the direction an Israeli response may take.
