Following a public outcry, the management at Tel Aviv’s Sarona market cancels a NIS 3,500 fine for a store owner who chose to close his business on Saturdays to honor the Sabbath.
“From a place of public responsibility the management decided to cancel the fine, and contact the relevant legal authorities to investigate the violation,” a statement by Sarona market reads, according to Ynet.
The owner of the “Henri’s” chain had claimed that although a contract he signed stated that the business had to stay open on Saturdays, there was an informal understanding that the clause would not be enforced.
The Sarona management, however, called the decision “a fundamental breach of the renting agreement,” in a letter sent to the store, Walla reported.
