Treasury transfers NIS 100 million to hospitals to end partial strike

Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman says the treasury has transferred NIS 100 million ($31 million) to public hospitals who have been protesting the government’s failure to provide adequate healthcare funding amid the pandemic.

The hospitals will receive additional funds when they meet certain criteria laid out by the ministry, adds Liberman.

“We will continue to support the healthcare system and enable life alongside the coronavirus,” tweets Liberman.

Since Wednesday morning, Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek hospital and both hospitals in the Hadassah system; Bnei Brak’s Mayanei Yeshua; Netanya’s Laniado; and Nazareth’s St. Vincent de Paul, Holy Family Hospital, and Nazareth Hospital, have only been performing life-saving procedures and have refused to admit new patients from the Magen David Adom emergency service.
