TV: With Shabbat looming, Bennett could remain in DC longer after summit delayed

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s advisers are reassuring White House staffers that they completely understand the delay in the planned summit with US President Joe Biden, due to the bombings in Afghanistan, saying the Israeli delegation will make itself available as necessary, according to Hebrew media reports.

According to Channel 12, which does not cite a source, Bennett’s staff is preparing for the possibility of extending the trip over the weekend, as the Orthodox prime minister will not travel over Shabbat.

Bennett had been rushing back to Israel on Thursday night, due to German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s planned trip to the Jewish state over the weekend. But with Merkel canceling that trip earlier today, similarly due to the situation in Afghanistan, he could remain in Washington longer, the report indicates.
