Viral army chef says he receives comments of ‘free Palestine’ on video of chopping watermelons

Nissim Mizrachi, an army chef who has garnered 50 million views on the TikTok social media app for his videos skillfully chopping watermelons and dancing, says his posts are “spontaneous.”

Mizrachi has posted videos of himself chopping the fruit and then dancing to a sped-up version of “You Spin Me Right Round” (1985) by English pop band Dead or Alive.

He tells Channel 12 news that he understood the symbolism of the fruit to pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel protesters, who have adopted the watermelon as an emblem since it has similar colors to the Palestinian flag, which police have confiscated at demonstrations.

He says he received many comments on his videos of “free Palestine.”

He began posting the videos in the summer, saying, “Whatever comes out I uploaded, that’s what happened,” adding that all his friends and other cooks have loved the posts.
