Yair Lapid’s evolution gaffe

Yesh Atid party leader Yair Lapid made a blunder on his Facebook page, calling evolution the accepted scientific theory for “the creation of the world.”

Lapid was responding to comments by Yesh Atid MK Yaakov Peri, who told Haaretz that he was not opposed to teaching evolution in schools as part of the curriculum, “but not evolution alone.”

In response, a disappointed voter wrote a post on Lapid’s Facebook profile, saying he had supported the party, but was disillusioned by Peri’s response.

Lapid wrote: “Yesh Atid supports teaching evolution in schools because this is the only valid scientific theory on the creation of the world. The issue does not even require any sort of deliberation.”

Whoops.
