A man in his forties was killed Monday when a car exploded in the northern city of Afula, in a suspected underworld hit.
The man was rushed to the city’s HaEmek Medical Center in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead several hours later.
Police said a bomb had gone off in the car, and were investigating.
The Ynet news site reported that the victim was employed as a guard at the local municipality. There were conflicting reports as to whether he had a criminal record.
A paramedic at the scene said: “Civilians had pulled out of the vehicle a man in his forties, who lay on the road with serious injuries to his lower appendages. I treated him, including stopping his bleeding, and he was taken to a hospital.”
Car bombings have become a trademark assassination method among underworld crime syndicates in Israel.
