Motorcyclist in his 50s killed in collision near Beit Shemesh

A man in his 50s was killed Monday following a collision between his motorcycle and a car on a road near the central city of Beit Shemesh.

The deadly crash took place on Road 3866 between the Mahseya junction and Moshav Nes Harim.

First responders said the man suffered multisystem trauma and was pronounced dead on the scene.

No details were immediately provided on the deceased man’s identity.

Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash.

It was not immediately clear whether the individual driving the car involved in the accident was hurt in any way.

Prime Minister Yair Lapid, whose sister Michal was killed in a traffic accident in 1984, said last month that Israel must improve road safety.

Israel was ranked last in a recent European road safety report comparing regional countries based on their ability to reduce annual road deaths over the past decade.

According to the report, European countries on average were successfully able to reduce traffic deaths by 31 percent between 2011 and 2021, while Israel saw only a 4.7% drop over that period.

According to the most recent data released by Israel’s National Road Safety Authority on September 29, there were 255 people killed on Israel’s roads since the start of 2022.
