Students at a college near Tel Aviv were voting Sunday for their student leadership, with one candidate able to claim that he has a lifetime’s more experience than his rivals and colleagues.

Eli Kadim, 82, competing to become head of the student union at Ono Academic College, in Kiryat Ono east of Tel Aviv, is believed to be the oldest ever candidate to head a student union in Israel.

Older than the college (founded in 1995), the average college student, and the State of Israel as well, Kadim is a third-year law student.

Voting began on Sunday morning and continues all week.
