Sinkhole opens in middle of Lod-Ramle highway

Police close Route 200 to traffic in both directions; no word on what caused sinkhole

A large sinkhole opened on Thursday in the middle of a highway between the central cities of Lod and Ramle.

Police closed Route 200 in both directions after the sinkhole appeared.

It was not clear what caused it.

In June, a giant sinkhole opened in the parking lot of a Jerusalem hospital, swallowing up a number of cars.
