Police arrested a suspect in an alleged hit-and-run accident after a nine-year-old boy riding a bicycle was killed by a truck on Monday in the southern coastal city of Ashkelon.

The boy was later named as David Ohayon.

The driver did not stop after hitting Ohayon, police said in a statement.

Paramedics who were called to the location on Yisachar Street declared Ohayon dead.

Eyewitnesses said they saw the driver bolt the scene after the accident, Channel 12 reported.

Hours later, police arrested the driver, an Ashkelon resident in his 60s, and took him in for questioning.

Magen David Adom said in a statement that paramedics called to the incident found Ohayon lying several meters away from the bicycle he had been riding, unconscious, with serious head injuries, and showing no vital signs.
