A Syrian citizen injured in clashes between rebels and the military was admitted to the Western Galilee Medical center in Nahariya Tuesday morning. The injured man was reportedly in serious condition, suffering from bruises and broken bones in his upper body.
So far, 47 Syrians have been treated in the Nahariya hospital since the start of the civil war and more than 100 serious medical cases have been allowed into Israel for treatment since February. Less severe cases are treated at an IDF field hospital on the Golan Heights. Israel has said it offers the care as an act of humanitarian assistance, while endeavoring to stay out of the Syrian war, in which an estimated 100,000 people have been killed.
Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon in early June confirmed for the first time that Israel was operating the field hospital on the Syrian border and transferring severely wounded Syrian nationals to Israeli hospitals for treatment.
