Abbas wishes Israelis a year of peace

PA president calls Peres, who says that despite ‘difficult’ year, ‘we must continue to strive’

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday evening called President Shimon Peres and conveyed his good wishes for the Jewish new year to the president and Israel, the President’s Residence announced in a statement.

“I know that the last year has been a difficult one but we must not give up,” the Israeli president said. “We must continue to strive for peace.”

According to the statement, Abbas emphasized that the Palestinian people also longed for peace and said he hoped the coming year would be a year of peace.
