IDF troops arrested three prominent Hamas leaders in the West Bank village of Jalqamus on Sunday morning, according to the Palestinian news agency Ma’an.
The Ma’an report said that brothers Abd and Rabe al-Haj, and Abd al-Basit, were detained when soldiers raided their village 10 kilometers (6 miles) south of the city of Jenin.
The IDF had no comment on the report.
Basit was the Hamas spokesman in Jenin and served 13 years in an Israeli prison. His wife told Ma’an that their home was damaged during the Sunday raid.
The IDF reported that it arrested a Palestinian man on Saturday at the Eliyahu crossing, just south of Qalqilya, 10 kilometers from the Israeli city of Kfar Saba. The man had in his possession a firearm, ammunition and a map of the crossing. Reserve soldiers manning the crossing noticed the man’s suspicious behavior, and arrested him.
The Eliyahu Crossing is one of the major checkpoints between the West Bank and central Israel.
