IDF thwarts bomb attack along Gaza border

IDF troops thwarted an attempted terror attack along the border fence with the Gaza Strip Monday morning, the army said.

The soldiers spotted two suspects carrying a suspicious object near the fence, and chased them away by firing warning shots, according to a statement from the army. As they fled, the suspects dropped the object, which exploded moments later.

Militants regularly target IDF patrols with roadside bombs along the borders.

Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah said in an interview published on Monday that his Lebanese Shiite group was behind a blast that targeted Israeli troops on the border between the two countries last month. The blast, on March 14, came after Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes inside Lebanon that were believed to have targeted its positions near Lebanon’s border with Syria.

The blast hit an Israeli patrol along the border near the disputed Shebaa Farms area, known as Har Dov. The Israeli army said none of its troops were hurt in the blast.

Another explosion in the same area days later left four soldiers injured and drew Israeli retaliatory strikes at Syrian army positions.

Over the weekend, Gaza terrorists fired a series of rockets at Israel, all of which fell in open areas. Israel responded with airstrikes on Hamas positions.
