Israel will send a delegation of five athletes to the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, which are set to take place in February 2014.
Among the athletes selected by Israel’s Competitive Sports Administration are male figure skater Alexei Bychenko, pairs skaters Evgeni Krasnopolski and Andrea Davidovich, speed skater Vladislav Bykanov and skier Virgile Vandeput, JTA reported.
The team was announced on Monday, according to Israeli sports news site One.
Krasnopolski and Davidovich will be Israel’s first pairs figure skating entry ever.
According to the International Olympic Committee, 2,556 athletes from 82 countries took part in the previous Winter Olympics, held in 2010 in Vancouver.
Only three Israeli athletes participated in the 16-day event, which drew tens of thousands of live spectators and some 1.8 billion global TV viewers.
The Winter Olympics will be held Feb. 7- Feb. 23.
