Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman, who has embarked on a new exercise regimen in an effort to lose weight, is working out at the Shin Bet security service’s headquarters, Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, Liberman, who is an avid tennis player, is keen to maintain a healthy weight and remain stout of both mind and body to better perform his government duties.
The minister initially began visiting a hotel gym in Jerusalem, but his security detail became concerned that regular visits to a public location would make him an easy target. Instead, Liberman was invited to use the gym at Shin Bet headquarters in the Jerusalem area. The 54-year-old foreign minister now visits the gym, where secret service fitness trainers put him through his paces, several times a week.
Liberman is not the first high-ranking government official to use the Shin Bet’s gym. Former prime minister Ehud Olmert and current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are both reported to have sweated it out at the security agency’s center of operations.
