Princess Leia to open Jewish literary fair
Author and ‘Star Wars’ actress Carrie Fisher will deliver keynote address at St. Louis Jewish Book Festival in October
A famous Jabba the Hutt captive will open one of the largest Jewish book fairs in the US in October.
Carrie Fisher, the half-Jewish daughter of Darth Vader (onscreen) and Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds (in real life), will headline the 2012 St. Louis Jewish Book Festival, where she’ll deliver the keynote address and participate in an onstage interview to open the fair.
In addition to her iconic film and sharply scripted TV roles, she’ll likely speak about her most recent memoir, “Shockaholic,” and earlier books including “Postcards From the Edge” and “Wishful Drinking.” (Just for fun, we’re going to throw in a clip of Fisher setting up a great Billy Crystal meltdown in “When Harry Met Sally.”)
Fisher’s fans sometimes have trouble distinguishing the writer/actress from her famous “Star Wars” character, a problem we at The Times of Israel don’t have (except when writing headlines and noting that her onscreen mother was born in Jerusalem).
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
