Security forces seized 140 kilograms of hash that was smuggled into Israel from Egypt, early Tuesday morning. The bust, which involved a car chase and multiple police units including air support, took place in Israeli territory near the Gazan border with Egypt.
The smugglers reportedly abandoned their vehicle (with the drugs) and escaped on foot into the desert, with security personnel in pursuit.
The hashish seized is worth millions of shekels on the street.
In a similar bust last month, 175 kilograms of hashish was captured, estimated at the time to be worth some NIS 10 million ($2.8 million).
