Although she failed in her 2009 bid to become prime minister of Israel, former Kadima leader Tzipi Livni is getting a chance to step into the premier’s shoes in this week’s war games simulation at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya.
The simulation, entitled “The Isolation of Israel: The Day After,” will take place on Tuesday, and boasts an impressive list of participants who will role-play Israeli, US, Palestinian, Hamas, Turkish, EU, and other international representatives.
Participants will have to cope with scenarios such as evacuation of settlements, contested land in the West Bank, international arrest warrants, economic embargoes, and the like.
Livni, who plays the Israeli prime minister, will be joined by former IDF spokesman MK Nahman Shai, former ambassador Zalman Shoval, Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs president and diplomat Dore Gold, former aide to Prime Minister Yoaz Hendel, and diplomat Alon Liel, among others.
Livni, who was foreign minister under former prime minister Ehud Olmert, won the popular vote in the 2009 elections, but was unable to form a coalition and the premiership went to Benjamin Netanyahu. She lost the leadership of the Kadima party to Shaul Mofaz in the end of March this year, and shortly thereafter retired from political life.

Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
