The White House was evacuated on Friday after a man was seen breaking the security perimeter and running across the lawn before being stopped by the Secret Service.
White House staff and reporters were ordered by the Secret Service to leave as the incident was unfolding.
President Barack Obama had reportedly just left the building.
The president had boarded the Marine One helicopter and was headed to Camp David in Maryland, Reuters reported.
