At least 16 injured after gunman opens fire inside New York City subway
Police update that there are no active explosive devices on scene in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park; suspect still at large, may have dressed as a construction worker

NEW YORK — New York City authorities said at least 13 people had been injured in a shooting incident at a Brooklyn subway station on Tuesday morning, with five believed to be directly wounded by gunfire.
Early reports said there were also explosive devices discovered at the scene. The police department later tweeted that there were “NO active explosive devices at this time.”
The first calls about the emergency came in at around 8:30 a.m., during rush hour.
Photos from the area showed bloody civilians on a subway platform shrouded in smoke.
First responders arrived at the scene following reports of smoke from the subway station.
At least 13 people had been rushed to hospitals, with at least one in critical condition.

A spokesman for the Israeli Consulate in New York said he was not aware of any Israelis who were injured in the shooting.
Police said officers were inspecting all subway stations and trains in the city’s massive transit system.
US President Joe Biden and New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who is in isolation due to a COVID-19 infection, were briefed on the incident, their spokespeople said.
The White House was in touch with New York City authorities to provide assistance, spokesperson Jen Psaki said.
Schools in surrounding parts of Brooklyn were sheltering in place.
The incident occurred in the Sunset Park neighborhood at 36th Street and 4th Avenue at a station for the D, N and R subway lines.
An NYPD bomb squad was on the scene and an FDNY spokesperson said undetonated possible explosive devices were found on the scene.
Police said a suspect may have been dressed as a construction worker and wearing a gas mask.
The Metro Transit Authority said there will be major delays to the subway system citywide.
The NYPD called on New Yorkers to avoid the area and call in with any information.
