A Jewish dermatologist known for his ads in New York City subways is retiring at age 70.

Jonathan Zizmor has retired and the closed his New York office, the New York Daily News reported on Monday. According to the Daily News, Zizmor now “spends his time studying the Talmud.”

Zizmor’s colorful and kitschy ads promoting cosmetic dermatology procedures, which he estimated run in about one out of every five New York subway cars, first popped up in the early 1980s. His face became one of the most recognized in the city.

The subway celebrity came under fire in 2013 for endowing a scholarship at Yeshiva University’s High School for Boys in the name of an alleged sex offender.

Zizmor’s mansion in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx has also gone into contract for $3.075 million after three years of being on the market, Curbed reported.

“I am sure it is only a matter of time before they are involved in their next charitable project,” Zizmor’s realtor Sandra Weibel told the Daily News.
