Unknown assailants fired at the office of Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad in Ramallah on Wednesday. PA policemen stationed at the home returned fire on the gunmen, who fled the scene.
There were no reports of casualties on either side. Fayyad was not at the office during the shooting.
One report stated that PA police had concluded the incident was not a targeted shooting but an accident, in which a handgun went off during careless handling of the weapon.
A Palestinian official said guards told him they heard several shots being fired in the air. It was not clear whether the shots were fired by gunmen on foot or in a car. The assailants escaped.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the incident with reporters.
The shooting took place at the time of the meal that breaks the dawn-to-dusk fast of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
