HBO has acquired the rights to develop an Israeli television series.
The network will develop “Nevelot,” or “Bastards,” which is based on a novel by the late Israeli author Yoram Kaniuk, the Israeli business daily Globes reported.
The Israeli series dealt with two veterans of the Palmach, the elite fighting force of the Haganah, the underground army during the British Mandate, who go on a violent spree against indifferent Israeli youth.
The American series will focus on two Vietnam veterans who go on a vigilante spree in Miami.
The series will be produced by Happy Madison, Adam Sandler’s production company, which is part of Sony Pictures Television.

According to an article in Forbes in April, Israel has become the third-largest source of American television content, after Britain and Holland. Dori Media’s “Betipul” became the American show “In Treatment,” which won Emmy, Golden Globe, Peabody and Writers Guild awards over its three-season run.
Keshet’s “Prisoners of War” (“Hatufim” in Hebrew) became Showtime’s “Homeland,” which Forbes reports draws on average 1.66 million viewers per episode. It too boasts both Emmy and Golden Globe awards.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
