Israeli strike reportedly kills four in central Gaza; no immediate comment from IDF

At least four Palestinians, including two boys and a woman who was pregnant with twins, were killed Sunday in an Israeli airstrike in the war-torn Gaza Strip, authorities in the enclave’s hospitals said.

The strike hit a house in Nuseirat, an urban refugee camp in central Gaza, killing a couple in their 30s and their 10-year son, according to the nearby Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.

The fourth fatality, a 15-year-old neighbor, was taken to Awda hospital in Nuseirat. The boy’s younger brother was wounded in the strike, the hospital said.

“We were sleeping and got up to the strike of a missile. The strike was strong,” said Mahmoud al-Muhtaseb, a neighbor. “There was no prior warning.”

The toll could not be immediately independently verified, and there was no immediate comment from the Israel Defense Forces. The IDF frequently says its strikes in Gaza come in response to Hamas’s violations of the ceasefire in the Strip, which took effect in October.

The ceasefire largely halted fighting between Israel and Hamas following the two-year war sparked by the terror group’s October 7, 2023, onslaught.

Six other people were killed by Israeli strikes between Friday night and Saturday morning, according to Palestinian reports. The IDF said it had killed three Palestinian gunmen since Friday.

Over the past week, Israeli troops have killed some 20 Palestinian terror operatives who allegedly violated the terms of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, according to the military.

On Sunday, the military said that over the previous week, Israeli troops killed some 20 Palestinian terror operatives who violated the terms of the ceasefire. They included those who allegedly crossed the ceasefire line or planned attacks on soldiers.

Earlier on Sunday, the IDF said troops killed a Palestinian gunman who opened fire on them in the southern Gaza Strip. Soldiers of the Paratroopers Brigade were conducting clearing operations of Hamas infrastructure in the Rafah area when they identified the armed terror operative, the military said.

According to the military, the operative opened fire on the paratroopers, who then returned fire and killed him. No soldiers were hurt.

Another of those killed by troops of the 98th Division over the past week was identified by the IDF as a deputy company commander in Hamas’s elite Nukhba Force, from the Beit Lahiya Battalion, who the military said invaded Israel during the October 7 attack and had been planning a sniper attack on troops.

And in the Khan Younis area, the IDF said, troops of the Gaza Division located a rocket manufacturing site belonging to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group. In another incident on Friday in the Khan Younis area, the IDF says it carried out a strike against two armed Hamas operatives, both of whom were killed.

In Rafah, a Hamas attack tunnel was demolished, the military said.
