Jon Lovitz uses Twitter to condemn anti-Semitic prank
Three teenage girls not charged with a hate crime; deeds broadcast to 28,000 Twitter followers
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on Google(JTA) — Jewish comedian Jon Lovitz used Twitter to condemn three girls who drew swastikas in maple syrup at a classmate’s home.
Lovitz is a childhood friend of the father of the teenage girl who was victimized at her Los Angeles-area home. The prank included leaving dog feces on the house’s porch and toilet paper in trees surrounding the home.
The girls admitted to the prank last week, but were not charged with a hate crime by police because, according to reports, the damage was not permanent.
“Some coward & idiot left this on a friend’s doorstep, yesterday. This is an insult to all of us,” Lovitz Tweeted on April 5 and attached a photo. Lovitz has 28,000 Twitter followers.
On April 9, he tweeted an update that read: “UPDATE!!!! The three girls who vandalized my friends home with swastikas and dog crap, have been expelled from their school permanently.”
The Los Angeles Unified School District told CBS the girls were disciplined but, according to school policy, could not say whether the girls had been transferred to another school.
Lovitz’s Twitter followers responded to his tweets with support for the young girl and her family, as well as for his tweeting of the incident. Some followers also slammed Lovitz for publishing the girls’ photo.
Police reportedly are investigating the mother of one of the girls. The mother could face criminal charges for driving the girls to the house in the middle of the night in order to vandalize it.
