Lawmakers in Australia’s most populous state approve a sweeping bill cracking down on guns after the nation’s deadliest mass shooting in decades.
The Upper House in New South Wales, where 15 people were killed last week in an antisemitic massacre at a Hanukkah festival on Bondi Beach, voted 18-8 to pass the legislation.
“There being 18 ayes and 8 nos, the question is resolved in the affirmative,” Ben Cameron, president of the Legislative Council of NSW, says after the vote.
