Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has spoken with US President Joe Biden by phone to offer his condolences over the deaths of US servicemembers in Afghanistan and discuss their postponed meeting, Bennett’s office says.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office says Bennett told Biden Israel stands by the US during the difficult hour.
He also tells Biden he is looking forward to their meeting tomorrow. The PMO says Biden thanked Bennett for his understanding over the delayed meeting, and that he’s looking forward to their meeting Friday.
No time has been announced for the meeting. There is no immediate White House readout of the call.
Bennett had been slated to meet Biden Thursday morning. Due to the change, he is likely to have to stay in Washington two extra days, due to Shabbat travel restrictions.

This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
