Jerusalem police say they have detained a 14-year-old boy for his role in the attack on Shas MK Yoav Ben-Tzur last week.
A group of extremists, protesting his cooperation in the advancement of a bill to regulate conscription for yeshiva students, smashed a window of Ben-Tzur’s vehicle as he left a weekly lesson in Jerusalem.
Police say they are still searching for others involved.
The protests were the latest instances in which a hardline faction of Haredim demonstrated its rejection of any plan that would conscript yeshiva students, even though the proposed law would likely enshrine mass exemptions for the community.
The attack on Ben-Tzur’s car drew condemnation from across the political spectrum.
